ABOUT PALOMA
Paloma Floral was born out of a desire to create beautiful designs without relying heavily on the use of products and materials which may harm our planet. Organic, seasonal blooms are sourced in an attempt to honour our local ecosystems. In addition, absolutely no floral foam is used (ever), so we find creative, low impact workarounds which help to keep our environment healthy. There is an astounding amount of waste in our industry and we wanted to know if it was possible to reduce our non-biodegradable waste to nearly zero, we achieved that goal in our second year, producing only one single black trash bag of waste while serving event clients and selling bouquets all season. We now grow the majority of our own flowers organically on a farm in Qualicum Beach, the remainder of the flowers we buy exclusively from local producers. Everyone on our team is deeply passionate about food security, in the future we plan to expand our flower patch and install a large vegetable garden, allowing us to start a free fresh veggie box program for our community. Ultimately, our mission is to create beautiful things that make people happy and contribute to the world in a positive way, hopefully leaving things better than we found them.
The Team
As the founder of Paloma Floral Studio, Reay’s passion for flowers is deeply rooted in the landscape of Vancouver Island where she was raised. With a focus on sustainability and creativity, Reay’s approach to floristry is romantic and organic, using ingredients that honor the natural beauty of each season with permaculture at the top of her mind. Her deep connection to her clients shines through in every wedding she designs, nurturing relationships that last long after the flowers have bloomed. Whether digging at the farm with her dog, Rosie, or curled up like a cashew on her laptop, Reay is forever and ever inspired by nature and the magic it brings to every moment.
Sarah joined Paloma Floral Studio in 2022 bringing with her 18 years of professional welding and gardening experience, adding a whole new layer of craftsmanship and creativity to the team. Described by friends as both the Plant Queen and the Honey Badger, Sarah’s expertise and hard working spirit has allowed Paloma Floral Studio to expand its offerings, from custom-built floral structures to growing a wider array of blooms in the flower patch. With a heart for innovation and a deep connection to the land, Sarah’s contributions help bring to life the studio’s signature organic and free-flowing designs. Her commitment to the people in her life and sure thinking are two of the first things to notice about Sarah,
Meet Rosie! Curious, cuddly, and fast as a whip, Rosie takes her farm duties seriously—unless there’s a chance for a snack or a snuggle! Though her vision might be a little fuzzy, her keen nose and sharp speed more than make up for it, keeping rabbits and deer at bay to protect the garden. She’s a natural at leaving snakes and frogs to their lives while keeping the rest in check, and without a doubt, Rosie is the cutest dog on planet earth.
